Macbeth paragraph thing

Devlin’s Translation:

MACBETH:

I curse the person who tells me this (that Macduff was not ‘born of a woman’ because he was ‘from his mother’s womb untimely ripped’ – by caesarian section)
Because knowing this makes me afraid
I and will now no more believe these fiends (Witches)
who constantly confuse me with tricks and double meanings
That keep making promises
and then breaking them. I’ll not fight with thee.

Macbeth’s State of Mind

At this point Macbeth is frustrated at the witches who he has realised have broken their promises, or at least not told him the whole truth. He’s beginning to become scared because he now knows that Macduff can kill him, due to a technicality he hadn’t anticipated. He reacts with cowardice, refusing to duel Macduff.

Shakespeare is is trying to illustraite a sense of frustration and cowardice, and that doing the wrong things to get what you want will eventually make things go bad. Macbeth and macduff have met, Macduff is ready to fight Macbeth. At this point Macbeth, the main character of the Shakespearian play ‘Macbeth’ is frustrated at the witches who he has realised have broken their promises “keep the word of promises to our ear, and break it to our hope”. Macbeth i beginning to become scared because Macduff was not ‘born of a woman’ because he was ‘from his mother’s womb untimely ripped’ witch is a technicality that the witches introduced when they said that no one born of women could kill Macbeth, Meaning that Macduff can kill Macbeth. When Macbeth realises this he reacts with cowardice and ‘will not fight thee’ this show that he is scared to fight with Macduff and that he knows that if he fights him he may die. Macbeth also says ‘for it hath cow’d my better part of man’ he no longer exhibits any qualities of a good man.

  1. I agree with your note.

I’d also encourage you to look carefully at the sample paragraph on the class website, as it demonstrates how you can use a clear formula of Statement, Example, Explanation to ensure you keep a clear logical sequence to your writing. – and to make sure you also use detailed reference to quotations in your ultimate answer.

Also, as we’ve mentioned, the paragraph written by Otto together with support from the whole class is a good example of how to keep the logic of your argument clear while referring to a range of items of evidence and analysis.
