Essay – Frankenstein

Analyse the extent to which Frankenstein creature displays common characteristics of a gothic antagonist.

The Creature is the antagonist in Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel “Frankenstein”. This unnamed Creature, that for purposes of ease i will call “bill” from now one, Begins life in a grown infancy, as a supernatural freak strung to gather in a micarb tangle of human strengths. Through the process of growing, mentally, and learning he gains many traits including empathy, incredibly strong emotion; good and bad, and vengeance. “I have love in me the likes of which you can scarcely imagine and rage the likes of which you would not believe. If i can not satisfy one, I will indulge the other”. As you could imagine the thoughts someone who learnt with out guidance would likely stem from emotion and little else, In this case anger. Anger at his greater for bringing him in to this world with out consent and then abandoning him.
